I don’t know JA Konrath personally and I haven’t read any of his books.

I learned about JA Konrath a few years ago reading volume two of The New Writer’s Handbook. In it he published an article called “Sling Your Web” in which he discussed driving traffic – the blog and website kind.

At the end of the article there was a blurb about Konrath, mentioning his 500 rejections, nine unpublished novels, website and blog. I will be the first to admit that I’m a nerd so of course I checked out his website and blog.

His blog is what caught my attention.

JA Konrath’s blog is called A Newbie’s Guide to Publishing.

The Newbie. That’s me.

I instantly fell in love with Konrath’s style. The way he can laugh at himself and at the same time provide helpful advice. I love the fact that he’s not lonely in his writing. He reaches out, to help people like me. Those willing to learn. In fact I probably have a blog because he told me that it’s important.

Ten days ago JA Konrath started a new blog. It’s called 30 Day Beer Diet. It’s exactly what you think it is. And as a result I am no longer ambivalent. I am now positive that JA Konrath is absolutely nuts. His new blog contains far more personal information than I care to know. But he is courageously funny. Fearless. And that’s what a writer needs to be.

So JA Konrath, though I don’t know you personally, I am personally thanking you. Thank you for being as zany as you are and providing me with laughs, hope and sound advice. Good luck with your diet and please don’t get sick. That wouldn’t be funny.
